I had the trunk packed for weeks and threw most of the fridge contents into the car before our last check-in, and I’m glad we did because we ended up staying (at the hospital that is).
Here are the things I most recommend bringing with you in no particular order:
Jambox
Long iphone cord and charger
cozy socks or slippers for your lady, also a robe if they like that
we brought the Frida Mom hospital gown which was nice to be in your “own” clothes as opposed to what they give you
pillow, blankets and eye mask (so you can sleep, she will be taken care of on this one)
toiletries—think of this like a clean but uncomfortable hotel stay. you gotta bring everything
for baby: car seat (can’t leave without one), outfits, PACIFIER, they will give you everything else—take all the freebies home with you!
lots of snacks, food and any caloric beverages your lady likes
those lovely rice socks for pain!
some sort of low lighting, as women’s eyes are dilated during birth-can be as simple as these electric tea lights or can be as fun as your future child’s night light
this may seem obvious, but several days worth of clothes and underwear for both of you
The Birth Partner book will have anything else you need-and has a great “what to bring” list as well
I also recommend reviewing the post on the Wellesley Underground for hospital and postpartum care.
For Postpartum care and breastfeeding, these are my must haves, (a * indicates you should bring to the hospital as well)
Frida Mom peri bottle * -great to get in this Frida Mom and Baby pack
Natural nipple cream* (none of that lanolin stuff)
The big maxi pads which you fill with witch hazel and stick in the fridge-keep a bag at the ready! (Note: this is DadBod’s job)
A manual breast pump and an electric one (which insurance should cover)
These breast-shaped reusable ice packs are a must!
Brest Friend nursing pillow (the most aptly named product on the market)
